Making a Solar Oven

The children are in the process of making a solar oven as part of their homework. They need to bring in their completed and tested (weather permitting) solar oven to school by (or before) 31st October where we will test them outside on a sunny day.

To help, here is a YouTube video which demonstrates how to make and use a solar oven.

Heat on the move...

Today the 3/4F students observed some demonstrations of heat moving in three different ways, through conduction, radiation (radiant heat) and convection. At the end the children were even able to test the movement of heat from their hands to chocolate. I'll let them explain that one! Yum! Here are some photos.

Melting butter on metal - conduction.

Candle moving a spiral - convection

Heat radiating from a lamp - radiation.

Wednesday 16th October is National Nude Food Day and our school is taking part in an effort to raise awareness and reduce the amount of waste we send to landfill. Grandparent's/Special Friends Day

Grandparent's/Special Friend's Day is on Monday 20th May between 11.30am - 1:00pm in room 2. 3/4F students brought home hand made invitations this week inviting their grandparents or special friend(s) to our class on this day. The students will be conducting some fun activities with their grandparents/special friends and will have the opportunity to have lunch together as well (so grandparents and special friends are invited to bring their lunch too).

    Week 4 Homework

    Hi 3/4F Parents,

Given that next week is NAPLAN week and it will be a full on week for all involved, there will be no formal homework issued this week for the class.

Instead, the children have been provided with a fraction chatterbox for them to make and use. Instructions have also been provided. They may even test you and your knowledge of fractions and decimals!

Children are still expected to read at least 4 times each week. Please record their reading in their diaries.

Post your answers on the 3/4F Blog Spot.

Also, here is a link to a series of shape games that can be played at home: http://www.familylearning.org.uk/shape_games.html.
